Miss Universe Australia, Francesca Hung, has her sights set on bringing home the coveted title of Miss Universe later this year.

The determined 24-year-old, who was recently crowned Ms Universe Australia, will head to the Philippines in November to compete in the international event.

In the lead up to the pageant, Ms Hung says has turned her focus to diet and exercise as she revealed it can be a 'little daunting' being on stage in a bikini.

Speaking on The Morning Show on Friday though, and Miss Hung revealed she was never really 'in it to win it'

The Chinese Australian beauty is vying for the title of Miss Universe and will take to the stage in November

'I've been trying to work on my abs for the big show, as walking on stage in a bikini can be a little daunting sometimes! She told PopSugar.

While other beauty pageants like Miss America and Miss Teen USA have scrapped their swimwear sections, Miss Universe still includes it.

Ms Hung explained that while the pressure is on to look her best for the upcoming competition, she hasn't strayed too much from her day-to-day routine.

A healthy green smoothie (pictured left) makes for a great on-the-go breakfast while lunch tends to be a protein-packed affair (chicken salad, pictured right)

Her mornings start with a short burst HIIT training (high-intensity interval training) followed by a green smoothie and a black coffee.

While she keeps lunch light and simple, the young model, who is also currently studying for a masters degree in publishing, revealed she will 'try to fill up on protein'.

This is usually chicken or tuna alongside a healthy serving of vegetables.

The 24-year-old Sydney-based beauty has been striving to carve out a career in modelling for the past three years

The Chinese-Australian model also has an arts and sociology degree from University of Sydney

Snacking is also something Ms Hung said she keeps to a minimum.

However, if she does need something extra to keep her going some fruit or a handful of nuts does the trick.

The Chinese Australian stunner has previously shared how important it is for her to shake up stereotypes of beauty and how this has been a motivating factor for her.

Her determination to succeed is clearly evident as is her disciplined approach to her evening meal.

She revealed dinner is something which will be easily digestible like a soup or stir-fry.

She explained that when veggies are cooked it's much easier for your stomach to break them down.

As well as being a busy student, Ms Hung has major modelling contracts with Westfield and Slate Swimwear, and has a large online following, with more than 50,000 Instagram followers.

Interestingly her modelling career almost never was, PopSugar previously reported.

'I was actually turned away from every Sydney-based agency when I first tried to get into modelling,' she said.

So Miss Hung spent the next three years building up her portfolio as she continued to chase her modelling dreams.

Prior to the pageant, Miss Hung identified what separated her from the other 32 contestants.

'In Australia, we have a lot of beautiful Anglo-Saxon models however, I guess my draw card is that I am half Chinese, Irish and Australian heritage,' she said.

Prior to the pageant Miss Hung also spoke about what separated her from other contestants including her heritage

Miss Hung was inspired by the likes of Rachael Finch but never saw herself achieving the same goal.

She now hopes to inspire a whole new generation in her own way.

'I want to be a role model for kids growing up with multicultural backgrounds and show them that it's cool to be different,' she said.

This years event will be held in the Philippines on November 26 and is the 67th Miss Universe pageant.

Notable debuts at this year's pageant include contestants from Kyrgyzstan and Mongolia, while Greece, Belize and Kosovo have returned to the competition fold.
