Reigning Miss Universe R'Bonney Nola Gabriel arrives in Manila

THREE days before the much-anticipated coronation night, 38 candidates of the Miss Universe Philippines bring their A-game as they confidently strut the runway during the pageant's preliminary competition at the Okada Manila, Parañaque City on Wednesday.
The competition is a preview on what's to come for the finals night and an important part of the pageant as it will determine who will compete for the Top 16.
The event saw the ladies flaunting their curves during the swimsuit portion and paraded their dazzling evening gowns created by their chosen local designers.
During the event, reigning Miss Universe Philippines Celeste Cortesi gave words of advice to the candidates.
"I totally feel and understand their position right now and I know there is a lot of pressure, a lot of expectations. My advice is to really be yourself and do your purpose, always stick to your values, principles and be aware," Cortesi said.
"I think it's important because there's a tendency for a candidate or a winner to kind of lose themselves in the process of wanting to have a title or a crown. But as long as you stick to your principles and you're guided by your purpose, you will be that kind of empowered and inspirational woman. Cherish every single moment because this is for me one of the most memorable moments of my life," she added.

Meanwhile, reigning Miss Universe 2022 R'Bonney Gabriel has arrived in the Philippines. Being part Filipina, she last visited the country with her parents five years ago.
The 29-year-old will grace the Miss Universe Philippines gala night tonight at the Okada Manila and the coronation night on Saturday, May 13, 2023.
Gabriel is a proud half Filipino whose father, Remigio Bonzon "R. Bon" Gabriel, immigrated to Washington state at the age of 25 and went on to earn his doctorate degree in psychology at the University of Southern California.
In previous interviews, the Texas native shared she feels a "big responsibility" to share her multicultural background and empower others to embrace their identities. As a voice for Asian-Americans – she opens the door for more diversity and representation in society.
Aside from Gabriel, Thai businesswoman and Miss Universe Organization owner Anne Jakrajutatip will also be in attendance.
The coronation night will be held at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay and will be hosted by actors Xian Lim and Alden Richards. TV and radio host Tim Yap and The Miss Globe 2021 Maureen Montagne will serve as backstage hosts, while Miss Universe 2019 Zozibini Tunzi is slated to appear as a guest host.
