Avoiding Holocaust metaphors apparently isn't common sense for everyone.

During the Miss USA pageant Monday night, commentator and former "Queer Eye" star Carson Kressley compared the event to a 1979 novel about a woman forced to choose between her son's life and her daughter's at Auschwitz.

"It's like 'Sophie's Choice!' They're all so good," Kressley said of the final 15 competitors, which had been narrowed down in the preliminary rounds ahead of Monday's televised broadcast.

Supermodel Lu Sierra, who served as a "competition insider" along with Kressley, quickly moved on to her favorite contestants of the night.

Miss Nebraska, 23-year-old Omaha native Sarah Rose Summers, eventually walked away with the crown after encouraging people to "listen to each other" and "speak your voice."

Miss Nevada, Carolina Urrea, and Miss North Carolina, Caelynn Miller-Keyes, were runners-up in the contest.

Summers, a Texas Christian University graduate now working on becoming a certified child life specialist, will now move to New York and begin work with the Miss Universe Organization.

Kressley was not available for comment and a rep for Miss USA did not return a request.
