Miss World Organization says criteria remain unchanged: ‘We’re staying as we are’

Julia Morley, CEO of the Miss World Organization (MWO), stated that the criteria for contestants in the oldest international beauty pageant will remain unchanged.

During a recent press conference at Crowne Plaza Manila Galleria in Quezon City, she briefly responded to the media.

Julia explained that countries joining the Miss World competition already know what they signed up for prior to their inclusion in the lineup.

“I hear lots of things about people moving here and there and everywhere. We’re staying as we are… We now have 142 nations coming together. And the reason is, they know us, they know our rules, they know our regulations, and we don’t make any pretense about who we are, what we are,” she explained.

Earlier this year, the Miss Universe Organization (MUO) announced that they would no longer restrict the age of their contestants. Previously, only women between the ages of 18 and 28 were allowed to compete in the beauty pageant.

The CEO of Miss World stated that while she respects other pageants' criteria changes, Miss World will not be implementing any at this time.

“You know what we are. You know what it is. Every mother knows her child is with us, and they’re going to enjoy a safe time,” she said.

“We are not God. We have to behave with respect. We keep to our rules, don’t mess around. You know what you’re getting, we know what we’re receiving. And that’s how it is,” she added.

Reigning Miss World Karolina Bielawska is in the country with Julia to visit Fr. Rocky Evangelista and Tuloy Foundation, one of the beneficiaries of MWO. Bielawska expressed excitement upon arrival.

“I am so looking forward to experiencing the Philippines' world-acclaimed hospitality, and visiting some of your beautiful scenic tourist destinations, and sampling some famous Filipino dishes such as chicken adobo," she said in a press conference.

Right after their visit to the country, they will prepare for the 71st edition of the Miss World pageant.
