Mmapaseka eyes the Miss South Africa pageant

A young up and coming to Alex ‘Mmasebotsana’ (beauty queen) has her eyes set on the Miss South Africa beauty pageant title as a stepping stone towards conquering the world.

Mmapaseka Jeanrose Manyama (19), a third and final year electrical engineering student at the Alexandra Campus of the Central Johannesburg College, is the current holder of Miss Royalty Limpopo Queen which was bestowed on her last December.

She is also currently a top 10 finalist in Miss Teenager South Africa which is a countrywide beauty pageant. She mustered sufficient votes to garner a spot on the list of finalists whose crowning date is still to be announced.

Besides her participation in the two pageants, Tzaneen-born Mmapaseka who has since relocated from Alex to Bramley View, is a former titleholder for the Miss Little Alexandra, Miss Alexandra Teen Popularity for 2020, and a 2nd Princess of the Miss Alex Heritage 2021.

Mmapaseka matriculated at Makobo High School in 2019 with the intention of studying for a qualification in pharmacy but changed her mind when she discovered there were courses still considered a preserve for men in this country, one of them being electrical engineering.

“I decided to swap courses as I could not stomach the feeling that in this day and age, there are still some professions considered a preserve for man,” said the gymnastics fanatic who does the sport to keep fit. “I believe as a model, I have to keep a slim and fit body as my body represents who I am. Gymnastics helps me keep in shape. If time allows, I will also want to enter the Miss South Africa pageant one day and go all the way to conquer the world,” Mmapaseka added.

One of her ambitions is to work hard towards changing South Africa to become a better place for both sexes, and a women-friendly country that truly believes in empowerment and equality. “I believe not enough is being done to foster this equality among the sexes.”

Her mentor, Alex arts creative Refilwe Pieterse wished her well in all her endeavours for the future. “I am just excited for her and the fact she has some role models to mould her future around.”
