A 24 year old registered nurse is the new Miss Samoa. Her name is Fonoifafo Nancy McFarland – Seumanu.

Nine Samoan beauties drawn from Australia, New Zealand, US and Samoa, went after the crown, including the winner who entered the pageant as Miss New Zealand Samoa.

Seumanu picked up Best Talent and Best Interview on her way to become Miss Samoa for the next 12 month from 2019-2020.

The New Zealand born has her ancestral roots in Salelologa, Sapapali’i, Aleisa, Letogo and American Samoa.

Her large family were there to give her a winning cheer and add to making her more humble and honoured to be crowned the fairest in the land.

Asked what she will she be focusing on during her reign, Seumanu said it will definitely be in the area of health.

She has been a registered nurse for three years after completion of her bachelor’s degree in nursing in 2016 and also has a postgraduate certificate in nursing.

“With my specialty in health it will definitely be in the area of health and the lives of our young children.”

Asked why she entered the pageant she said it is a way to showcase the culture as well as promote what a ‘tamaita’i’ Samoa is.

“Our culture is unique in so many ways starting from our language, food, siva Samoa, to our clothing,” she said.

“Samoa is irreplaceable because it is larger-than-life with a distinctive culture that no other country can offer.”

She believes the Miss Samoa symbolizes and demonstrates a tamaita’i Samoa who embraces her culture, understands and values the role that she has in influencing positive changes within her community; and someone who is passionate about serving her people.

The new Miss Samoa is the daughter of Rev. Seumanu Seumanu and Nancy McFarland.
