New Miss Universe PH franchise a ‘good development’ for pageant hopefuls – expert

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, December 10)— The establishment of a new team that will solely handle the Miss Universe competition will prove to be advantageous for future hopefuls, a pageant expert said Tuesday.

“It is a good thing because the focus will be on Miss Universe itself and not a contest that would really try to filter candidates for this contest, and this contest and the like,” pageant expert and blogger Norman Tinio told CNN Philippines’ The Source.

“So in effect, the big national pageants are now all independent,” he added.

The Miss Universe Philippines Organization on Monday announced it will be the new franchise holder for the pageant, taking the reins from the Binibining Pilipinas Charities Inc, which had been at the helm for 50 years.

BPCI also confirmed the news Tuesday saying it will move forward with its "charitable initiatives and the staging of the annual Binibining Pilipinas Pageant."

There were four Miss Universe bets from the country that won the prestigious title under its management, the BPCI noted.

Tinio likewise expressed excitement over the 2020 competition, which he described as an “all-star search.”

“I cannot name names, but this much I can say--very very familiar names will, are very interested in joining,” he noted.
