Pearland woman hits floor when named as Miss Texas

Foreman dropped to the floor and slapped the stage at the Eisenmann Center in Richardson as fellow contestants cheered with excitement.

Rising to receive her crown, sash and a bouquet of yellow roses, the daughter of Dexter and Courtenay Foreman of Pearland cried, “Oh, my God” again and again as she took her first walk as Miss Texas.

“I didn’t even see it, because I went to the floor as well,” said her mother. “The whole audience was screaming, but I had jumped out of my seat when they got down to the final two, and I stood against the wall. So did my son (Dexter Foreman Jr.), who stood with his arm around me.”

When the first syllable of the first runner-up’s name was called, Courtenay Foreman reacted.

“I dropped to my knees. I didn’t see Chandler crowned or receive her sash,” Foreman said. “When my nerves finally allowed me to get up, people said, ‘She is definitely your child. Your reactions were the same.’”

Chandler Foreman was Miss Houston 2017 and placed as third runner-up in last year’s state pageant. In Saturday’s Miss Texas pageant, she competed as Miss Park Cities, a Dallas-area title, as Foreman is a 22-year senior at the University of North Texas in Denton. It was the first Miss Texas pageant without a swimsuit category, per a controversial new rule set by the Miss America Organization.

In a previous Pearland Journal article, the winner’s mother noted that she is especially proud of her daughter’s distinction of winning Miss Congeniality in every pageant she’s entered.

“That tells you what the other girls think of her, as the actual people competing are the ones who vote on Miss Congeniality,” Courtenay Foreman said. “From a mom’s standpoint, you want to think you raised good people. When other people agree, it makes you feel very, very humbled and proud of them.”

Social media buzzed about how Chandler Foreman’s fellow contestants rushed to congratulate her.

Next, the Miss America Competition

Next, the new Miss Texas will compete at the 2020 Miss America Competition. In May, NBC announced it will that it will televise the pageant’s finals, but the date and venue haven’t been announced.

A flute player, Foreman won both talent and onstage question in evening wear preliminaries at the pageant. At the awards banquet following the pageant, it was announced that Foreman was the overall interview and talent winner.

For her talent presentation, Foreman performed a flute medley of “Theme from ‘Mahogany’ (Do You Know Where You’re Going To?)” and “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough.”

Among her winnings as Miss Texas are a $20,000 cash scholarship.
