Newly-crowned Miss World, Jamaica's Toni-Ann Singh received a warm welcome on her return to the island on Friday evening.

Dignitaries, led by Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, Olivia Grange; members of the press and Miss Jamaica pageant organisers, among others packed the executive lounge of the Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston to welcome home the beauty queen, whose flight arrived at approximately 6.23 pm.

"Me ah guh meet my lady yah now," an excited male usher said as the plane touched down.

Singh, upon her arrival inside the lounge at 6.42pm, appeared touched by the fanfare and exuded the same sense of humility she displayed on her way to copping the 2019 edition of the Miss World title in London last Saturday.

"Hello everybody... I am happy to be home," she said to rousing cheers.

Singh's victory at the Miss World pageant ended a 26-year wait for a Jamaican to win the crown. She is the fourth Jamaican to win the title, the others being Carole Joan Crawford in 1963, Cindy Breakspeare in 1976, and Lisa Hanna in 1993.

The Government of Jamaica has declared four days of celebration, ending on Monday, to mark Singh's victory.

Among the activities scheduled are a cultural tribute on Saturday evening at Emancipation Park; a tour of sections of Singh's home parish, St Thomas; a Jamaica House reception hosted by Prime Minister Andrew Holness and a courtesy call on Governor-General Sir Patrick Allen.
