Rabiya’s grand homecoming slated Nov. 12

ILOILO City – A homecoming fit for a queen is what awaits Miss Universe Philippines Rabiya Mateo here next week.

Since her crowning on Oct. 26, Mateo has been fulfilling her duties as this year’s titleholder in Manila.

The Ilongga beauty queen is set to fly back to the city on Nov. 12.

A motorcade around the metropolis will be held on the first day of Mateo’s arrival.

Mayor Jerry Treñas will meet the 23-year-old stunner from Balasan, Iloilo in a courtesy call at the Iloilo City Hall.

The Ilonggo pride will likewise pay a courtesy call to Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. of Iloilo province and Mayor Manuel Ganzon of Balasan at the Iloilo provincial capitol.

Mateo will also spend private time with her family and friends as well as a private lunch with Cong. Julienne “Jam-jam” Baronda.

Also, among other itineraries based on the proposed plan and program of activities prepared by the Miss Iloilo Team, Mateo will lead the ceremonial lighting of the city’s Christmas parol project with Mayor Treñas.

The licensed physical therapist will be staying in the city until Nov. 14.

She is the first Ilongga to be selected to represent the country in the Miss Universe beauty pageant after Jaro, Iloilo native Louise Aurelio Vail, who was crowned Binibining Pilipinas in 1965. Vail was among the 15 semifinalists during that year’s Miss Universe in Miami, Florida, USA.

At 5 feet and 6 inches tall, Mateo will try to become the fifth Filipina to capture the Miss Universe crown after Catriona Gray (2018), Pia Wurtzbach (2015), Margarita Moran (1973), and Gloria Diaz (1969)./PN
