Menaye Donkor, whose MALZ Productions owns the franchise for Miss Universe Ghana, says the raising of funds for winners’ projects for beauty pageants is the responsibility of organisers’.

She says it should not be that of the beauty queens.

This comes barely a month after some beauty queens – particularly past winners of Miss Ghana – accused organizers of exploiting them for money.

Stephanie Karikari (Miss Ghana 2010), Antoinette Delali Kemavor (Miss Ghana 2015) and Giuseppina Nana Akua Baafi (Miss Ghana 2013) opened up to Ghanacelebrities.com about their terrifying experiences in the hands of Inna Marie Patty, CEO of Exclusive Events.

They accused Ms Patty, a former beauty queen herself, of verbally abusing them, sometimes, and exploiting them to make money.

They described the pageant as an escort agency.

Speaking on 3FM’s Urban Blend on Friday, Menaye Donkor, Miss Universe Ghana 2004, admitted that there is difficulty in raising sponsorship in Ghana, generally.

“[But] raising funds is the responsibility of the organizers and not that of the beauty queens,” the wife of Italy-based footballer Sulley Ali Muntari said.

But she added that the queens have to mentally, physically and emotionally available on fund-raising drives.

She also agreed with the suggestion that the Miss Ghana pageant should be a public-private partnership.

“I think it will work much better.”
