Schumacher Wins Miss America’s Outstanding Teen Preliminary Award

Cottage Grove, MN – On Wednesday evening, August 10, Miss Minnesota’s Outstanding Teen, Julia
Schumacher, won the first night of preliminary competition “On-Stage Question – Red Carpet Evening Gown Award” at Miss America’s Outstanding Teen competition in Dallas, Texas. She will receive a $1000 educational scholarship for her preliminary win. Miss Washington’s Outstanding Teen, Morgan Greco, won the preliminary talent award. Julia will compete in preliminary talent Thursday evening August 11, at the national competition.


The winner of Miss America’s Outstanding Teen 2023 will receive a $30,000 educational scholarship and will be crowned on Friday, August 12. Minnesota has never had a national Outstanding Teen winner in it’s 18 year history.


The 17-year-old represented the City of Coon Rapids when she won the state teen title in March 2022. Her Social Impact Initiative is, “How to Save a Life Training Individuals CPR.” An accomplished dancer, Julia will perform a lyrical dance to “Like Roses” during the competition in Dallas.


Julia’s scholastic ambition is to receive a Doctor of Medicine. Julia’s hometown is Mankato, where she will be a senior at Mankato West High School this fall, where she has attained a 4.3 GPA, taken 4 Advanced Placement Classes, and received 8 college credits. She is a National Honor Society member and Student Council Representative. Julia is a Varsity Letter winner in Soccer, and her athletic accomplishments include Girls’ Varsity Soccer Captain, Orchesis Dance Captain, and State Class AA State Soccer participant. She was recently elected the Student Body President by her peers at Mankato West High School.


The Miss Minnesota Outstanding Teen Pageant is the little sister program to the Miss Minnesota and Miss American Scholarship Organizations. The Miss Minnesota Outstanding Teen program was organized to promote positive achievement through the development of scholastic achievement, healthy living, creative accomplishment, community involvement all while being a positive role model for the nation’s young women.


The Miss Minnesota Outstanding Teen Organization encourages and rewards girls between the ages of 13 and 18 for outstanding talent, community service, academic achievement, and well-developed communication skills.


During Julia’s year of service, she will represent the State of Minnesota and the Miss Minnesota
Scholarship Organization
