Windhoek - She grew up in Windhoek where she was born in 1997. In her childhood, she never thought or imagined herself as a beauty pageant. If it were not for her family, friends and relatives who encouraged her to venture into the beauty pageant industry, today the nation would not be celebrating her victory.

“Honestly, the people around me saw pageant potential within me, and encouraged me to try it out,” said Miss Namibia Sussie Selma Kamanya during her interview with The Southern Times last week.

Kamanya will represent Namibia at the 67th edition of Miss Universe 2018 in the Philippines, where the winner will be crowned by outgoing Miss Universe, South African Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters. The 21-year-old beauty queen does not have any pageant history, but says the encouragement she got from her surroundings gave birth to her beauty passion.

She described herself as an ambivert, down to earth and completely relatable and saw her experience as a platform for developing one’s character as well as contributing positively to a person’s maturity.

The new Miss Namibia has always had a passion for empowering women even before the beauty pageant and her title came as a vision strengthener.

The young lady plans to work together with Standard Banks’ Women of Excellence and the Namibia Diamond Trading Company in building a diamond generation.

While other young girls of her age are dating and in relationships, Miss Namibia told The Southern Times that she was single. The 21-year-old beauty pageant is a lady of principles and she believed that her discipline and diligence are a bridge to her success. “I don’t like mediocrity. Therefore, I always try my best in whatever I do,” she said.

Kamanya likes listening to music and reading interesting articles in magazines or newspapers as a way of de-stressing. Sometimes she does workout sessions for the same cause. Although she balances her extrovert and introvert features in her personality, the beauty queen loves being at home surrounded by her family.

She holds a Diploma in Economics and is studying for a degree at the University of Namibia.

She won the Miss Namibia title at the 38th edition of the beauty pageant, which was held on July 7, 2018, in Windhoek.

The first runner-up was Clarise van der Vyver while Kabuba Namukokoba was the second runner-up.
