A send-off celebration will be held for Miss Alaska USA JoEllen Walters of Eagle River on Thursday, April 11, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at North Star Elementary in Anchorage.
Walters will sign autographs and answer questions from students, friends and family before for Reno, Nevada to compete in the April 29 preliminary competition. This Miss USA pageant will be televised on FOX at 8 p.m. on May 2.
Walters is a first-grade teacher at North Star who won the Miss Alaska USA pageant in August. The UAA grad has long been an advocate for proper prescription drug disposal, which is her platform for the competition.
Walters is one of two Eagle River women competing in the Miss USA events. Eagle River’s Meghan Scott is the 2019 Miss Alaska Teen USA winner and will compete in the Miss USA Teen pageant in Reno, which will be livestreamed April 28 at missteenusa.com.
