Miss Universe Philippines National Director Shamcey Supsup Lee has one piece of advice to girls who want to become the next Philippine representative to the prestigious Miss Universe beauty pageant: have something in your heart.

“I hope the girls would really have something in their heart. Know why you are joining and what that title means to you. That’s where it will all start,” said Shamcey at the grand opening of Smilee Apparel in Binondo, Manila last Saturday.

Shamcey also said that MUP is looking for future leaders and role models.

“If you have the fire in your heart, nothing can stop you. I am looking for future women leaders who can really have a big influence on people. Young women look up to beauty queens like us. I really want somebody who has goals and somebody who will use that platform for a better cause,” she said.

Shamcey, who won 3rd runner-up in Miss Universe 2011 in Brazil, said that she is honored to be part of Miss Universe Philippines pageant.

“I am very honored. Of course, it will take a lot of my time but I have the support of my family. And they are very supportive of this new venture. I’ll make time for everything,” she said.

“Super! I know a lot of people are excited na. Even me I am super excited kasi it’s a clean slate. Mas na broaden kung ano yung mga puwede nating gawin,” said Shamcey, when asked about her excitement on her journey to MUP.

Shamcey said that the MUP will also focus on advocacy. “Not just one (charity) but we really want to have a sustainable advocacy or charity as aspect when it comes to the pageant.”

The MUP has announced that it has extended the deadline for application for Miss Universe Philippines 2020 until Jan. 31. Other details of the new national pageant will be announced during a press conference.

“This to accommodate some planned changes in the pageant format and to better support our advocacy agenda,” the MUP said. The final screening will be on Feb. 1

Despite wearing many hats, Shamcey said that she hasn’t forgotten to be architect. In June 2010, Shamcey topped the Philippines’ licensure examination for architects with a board rating of 86.60 percent. She is now married to businessman Lloyd Lee. They have two children.

“I have big clients and I am currently designing a lot of their projects. Unfortunately, I cannot mention their names,” she said.

On her family’s apparel business, led by President Paul Lee, Shamcey said: “Ever since, our family has a goal to come up with a brand of shirt. We hope to cater to the corporate market, those who would be needing basic shirts. They can customize it or have something printed on it. We are also looking at company uniforms. Since we have been in the industry for 42 years already, this is a shirt that is made by Filipino, for the Filipinos. We are concentrated on knitted-clothing.”

Shamcey described the pricing for the shirt as competitive. “Even if the price is competitive, we can guarantee that we made it from scratch. It’s really made with utmost quality. This is the type of shirt that you can use for a long time even if it’s wash and wear. That’s what we pride in, the quality of the shirt.”
