Summer is going to see a new queen crowned for the Northern Marianas and Stellar Marianas is already in high gear preparing for the event.

The volunteer organization recently hosted an open house at the Bubba Gump Shrimp Restaurant in Garapan—an informal way to share what is coming up for the 2019 Miss Marianas pageant that is scheduled for June and to meet potential contestants.

Miss Marianas 2018 Celine Cabrera was on hand, along with Miss Marianas 2015 Jian Joyner, as well as members and officers of Stellar Marianas who shared stories and experiences of this life-changing opportunity.

Five applications have been received so far and Stellar Marianas is setting a deadline for Feb. 28 for all applications to be turned in. This year’s set of prizes promises to be one of the largest as Stellar Marianas celebrates its 14th anniversary.

“We have an exciting line-up of events and activities for our 2019 Miss Marianas contestants and would like to get started training and preparing as soon as we can,” said PR and Community Events director Monique Sablan.

Applications are available at the Pena House Boutique in Chalan Kanoa and is open to 18-26 year old females, U.S. citizen, not married, and of good character to represent the Northern Marianas to the world.

At the open house, Stellar Marianas focused on all the community events attended or hosted by the titleholders and contestants to emphasize that it is not only about the pageant experience but also to be an active community platform for young women to share what matters to them.

Cabrera shared her experiences as queen, pointing out that time flies when you are having fun.

“I can’t believe it has been a year already. I was just looking back at our photos as contestants and I feel I have become such a stronger, confident and more articulate person because of this wonderful journey,” said Cabrera, who has competed in the 2018 Miss International pageant in Tokyo, and traveled to Japan, China, Korea, U.S., Tinian and soon, Rota as queen.

The 2019 Miss Marianas pageant offers an amazing, transformative experience and this year is no different, with its theme of Celestial, honoring the CNMI’s ancient cultural tradition of sea voyaging and navigation.
