‘I want to bring home the Miss World crown’

Suman Rao (fbb Colors Femina Miss India World 2019) is all set to represent India at the Miss World 2019 pageant, which will be held at Excel Arena, London, on December 14. “This crown was the reason why I began my journey. It wasn’t like any little girl’s dream; I was drawn into the world of pageantry fairly recently — right after I saw the blue crown. My aim has always been to be Miss World,” says the 20-year-old from Rajasthan, who will compete against 113 other beauty queens from across the globe.

Suman says, “I’ve never been out of India before. As I head out with such a great responsibility, I know my life is about to change in a positive way.” Ask her about the rounds she is looking forward to and she says, “Miss World Fashion-Top Model. Although I’m excited about every single round, I’ve developed an interest in modelling, particularly ramp walk.”

This C.A. aspirant will be competing in various other rounds comprising Miss World Beauty with a Purpose, Miss World Talent, Miss World Multi-Media Award, Miss World Head to Head Challenge and Miss World Dances of the World.

For the finale, Suman will be wearing an ivory hued, décolletage neck gown, lined with crystals and baguette stones; and finished with a mermaid flair and trail curated by the international designers Falguni Shane Peacock.

“The preparations have led to a complete transformation in my personality and I’ve evolved through this process,” Suman recalls, while telling us about the time she initiated her rewarding Beauty with a Purpose Project under the title ‘Project Pragati’. “My initiative focuses on promoting financial independence for the women in Rajasthan. I was able to generate employment opportunities for 35 women, who are now empowered to use their skills to make handicrafts and aloe vera products, while they work in my unit,” she elaborates.

“When you’re honoured with this title, you become an example for almost everyone in the world. And when people start looking up to you, that’s when the change begins. I’ve been told that daughters have now started sharing their dreams with their parents back home. And, that’s a great achievement. I would like to change the way our society looks at women, who simply seem to be restricted due to their gender. Through this platform, I wish to empower them to be free to make their own decisions,” Suman signs off.
