Gazini Ganados of Talisay, Cebu won as Miss Universe Philippines early morning of Monday, June 10, 2019, during the country’s most awaited event, Binibining Pilipinas 2019. The pageant was held at Araneta Coliseum, Cubao, Quezon City.
Binibining Pilipinas is the Philippines’ national pageant that chooses the ladies who will represent the country is six international pageants. Ganados, an early pageant favorite for her strong Latina looks, will represent the country to the 2019 Miss Universe pageant.
From the moment Gazini was named The Face of Binibini (Miss Photogenic), and Best in Long Gown, fans of the 23-year-old Tourism graduate already had a good feeling that she is going to take home one of the crowns, if not the topmost title, by the end of the night.
During the final round, the Top 15 contenders were given 30 seconds to answer the questions of the judges. Pageant judge Bobby Barreiro asked Ganados: "If you win the crown tonight, what can you do to get more women in the workplace?"
She answered, "If I win the crown tonight, what I will do is to promote my advocacy. My advocacy is for us women to fight for our rights and the elderly care and for us to be able to know that someone is loving and someone is pushing us to whatever ambitions that we have. We will be able to rise from our decisions to whatever dreams that we have, the goals that we have, and we will achieve it because of those values, those wisdoms that they gave us."
Her answer won her the coveted title, succeeding Catriona Gray — who later on won the Philippines' fourth crown at the Miss Universe pageant. Before winning as Binibining Pilipinas Universe, Gazini has garnered the second most likes on the pageant’s Facebook page, next to Vickie Rushton of Negros Occidental, who was the biggest upset of the night.
Early in the competition, Rushton received a total of six awards. But she buckled, got distracted, and lost her train of thought during the 30 seconds. The 2019 pageant was Rushton’s second attempt. She won as first runner-up in 2018 but failed to nab a crown this year.
The other winners are Miss International Bea Patricia Magtanong of Bataan, Miss Intercontinental Emma Mary Tiglao of Pampanga. Miss Grand International Samantha Lo of Cebu City, Miss Globe Leren Mae Bautista of Laguna, Miss Supranational Reesham Saeed of Maguindanao, 1st runner up Maria Andrea Abesamis of Pasig, and 2nd runner up Samantha Bernardo of Palawan.
