Thai model crowned Jewel of the World 2019 pageant

A 28-year-old fashion model from Thailand was crowned Jewel of the World 2019 during a pageant held at the GT-Toyota Asian Cultural Center of the Philippines in Diliman, Quezon City on Tuesday night.

Chontida Chatsirichai bested 16 other international contestants in the pageant that promotes beauty in cultural diversity.

First runner-up honors went to Miss Philippines Maria Divine Angela Veranga, Miss China Huli Xie, 2nd runner-up, Miss Ecuador Susy Sacoto, 3rd runner-up, and Miss South Africa Kyla Maloney, 4th runner-up.

Chatsirichai is one of few Thai beauty queens who can really speak English well.

She finished college at a Thai international school and she plans to take up her masters degree soon.

Asked what she likes about the Philippines, the Thai beauty queen said: “I love the people here.” She also wants to be a businesswoman.

Winners of special awards include: Miss China (photogenic and swimsuit), Miss Japan (friendship), Miss USA (personality), Miss France (social media ambassador), Miss Ecuador (evening gown) and Miss Malaysia (Jewel for a Cause).

John dela Vega, national director, Jewel of the World pageant, said that the pageant is inspired by the May 21 declaration of the General Assembly as the World Day for Cultural Diversity.

“While other pageants push for women empowerment, protection of children and many other advocacies, Jewel of the World celebrates beauty in cultural diversity as it highlights the rich culture and heritage of the Philippines and participating countries,” said Dela Vega.
