The next beauty queen? Ruffa thinks daughter has what it takes

There is little doubt in her mind: Ruffa Gutierrez thinks that her daughter, Lorin, has what it takes to become a beauty queen.

The actress explained that with the right training and by finishing college first, her young head-turner can "represent the country in the best way possible."

She was asked about the prospect of Lorin joining pageants at the sidelines of her daughter's first endorsement shoot on Tuesday.

The proud mom revealed that Lorin has no plans so far to do so, sharing that her eldest is completely focused on her studies.

"Napaka-importante na makapagtapos siya ng pagaaral," she said. "I want her to make the most of everything that she's learning while she's in high school."

She added that aside from giving Lorin something to fall back on in case a career in the spotlight does not work out, a good education is a huge advantage to take with you when competing for international crowns.

"Ang importante kasi is iyong may utak eh. Hindi lang iyon focus puro katawan. Second na lang iyon," she explained. "Ang importante is what she can do to represent out country."

Asked about what advice Gutierrez, who finished 2nd runner-up in the 1993 Miss World pageant, has been giving Lorin, she said: "Be God-fearing, be positive, and be an inspiration to others."

'I won't say no'

Lorin, 14, told reporters that she wouldn't say no if an opportunity does come along, whether it be in local showbiz or pageantry.

She admitted that she may not be able to handle the pressure just yet, but she's more than willing to take on new challenges.

"If the opportunity comes and if I decide to change my mind, then of course, I'm not going to say no to anything right now because I'm still young. My mind can change pa."
