Tipperary Miss Ireland finalist comes to the rescue of unresponsive Clonmel girl

Cashel's Bailey Gavin is one of three Miss Ireland 2019 finalists from County Tipperary

The sky's the limit for a Tipperary woman vying for the title of Miss Ireland 2019.

Born in England before moving to Ireland and then emigrating to Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, Bailey Gavin returned to County Tipperary four years ago, completing her Leaving Certificate at Cashel Community School.

The 20-year old, who currently holds the title of Miss Tipperary South 2019, is about to start her second year of TV, Radio and New Media Studies at the Institute of Technology Tralee.

Bailey is one of 33 finalists who will take to The Helix, Dublin, stage for the 72nd Miss Ireland pageant on September 14, with the prize a place at the Miss World 2019 event in London this December.

As part of her Miss Ireland campaign, Bailey is planning on doing a skydive for Miss Ireland's chosen charity Variety Ireland, which helps children who are sick, disadvantaged or have special needs, this Friday (September 6). She has been left “overwhelmed and truly grateful” for the support the local community has given the fundraiser.

"I guess you can use the skydive as a metaphor for the whole experience," the daughter of Adrian and Kathleen tells TipperaryLive.ie.

"You have to take a leap of faith if you want to get places in life. It may take you out of your comfort zone but in the end you reap the rewards. This platform has given me the opportunity to do something I’ve never done before and all in aid of an amazing cause.

"As much as I love being beautified, it feels really good to be able to give back as well. After living abroad for so long, it's great to be able to engage with my local community and meet some of its characters. I even managed to get a few marriage proposals along the way," she laughs.

However, fundraising for the charity skydive took a turn for the worst when Bailey came across an unresponsive girl lying face down in the pouring rain on a street in Clonmel. “I called the ambulance and the gardaí, and waited with her until they came and took her to hospital. I called her work and the hospital the following day to check on her and thankfully she was okay. It was such a shock, but I was so glad to have been there to help her as I would like to think someone would do the same for me,” she adds.
