Christina Lasasimma, 28, will represent Laos in Miss Universe 2020. Hailing from Vientiane, Laos, she will be the Asian country’s fourth representative in the international beauty pageant, which was formed on June 28, 1952.

In 2017, Souphaphone Somvichith made history as the first woman to represent Laos in Miss Universe. She was followed by On-anong Homsombath in 2018 and Vichitta Phonevilay in 2019.

Because of the new coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, Phonevilay did not crown her successor in 2020. Lassasima was officially announced as the appointed Miss Universe Laos 2020 on March 18, 2021.

Now, it is Lassasima’s mission to become the first ever candidate from Laos to win the Miss Universe title or at least land in the quarterfinals. The first three candidates of the country were unplaced in the international beauty pageant.

This is a beauty pageant comeback for Lassasima. The Vientiane native was crowned Miss Laos 2012 years before she pursued a career as a professional model in Thailand.

Born in Laos, Lassasima is of Belarusian descent. Her mother Natalia Lassasima was born in Lelchytsy, Gomel Region, Belarus.

Christina has studied to be a programmer. In 2013, she was appointed as Goodwill Ambassador to the International Fund for Agriculture Development (IFAD) in Laos.

As of March 18, 2021, there are 72 candidates confirmed to compete in Miss Universe 2020 including Christina. Among her strongest competitions are Miqueal-Symone Williams, 23, of Jamaica, Sarita Reth, 25, of Cambodia, Nova Stevens, 27, of Canada, Bianca Lorena Tirsin, 22, of Romania and Maria Thattil, 27, of Australia.

Based in New York City, New York, United States, the Miss Universe Organization is currently owned by the WME/IMG talent agency. Besting 89 other candidates, Zozibini Tunzi, 27, of South Africa was crowned Miss Universe 2019 at Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta, Georgia, USA on December 8, 2019.

The Miss Universe 2020 coronation ceremony was not held in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, making Tunzi the longest reigning Miss Universe. She will pass her crown at the Miss Universe 2020 coronation night at 8:00 p.m. ET on May 16, 2021 at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Broward County, Florida, USA.
