Watertown is making many moves to try and put the community “on the map” when it comes to tourism and growing population.
The Watertown Convention and Visitors Bureau is one organization that focuses on bringing people to our community. This last weekend there was a special event, the Miss South Dakota USA and Miss South Dakota Teen USA pageant.
We spoke with Anjelica Uthe, Director of Marketing and Business Development with the Watertown CVB to find out more…

Then right before the crowning of this year’s winners, the crowd heard this: “If Anjelica, the director of Marketing & Business Development and her team are here in the audience, we would like to welcome them to the stage to accept this award. When the state pageant returned to the community of Watertown last year, after hosting the event in other communities for over a decade, it truly felt like we had come home! It is, thanks to the Watertown Event Center, Ramkota Hotel, and the fabulous team at the Watertown Convention & Visitors Bureau that we returned again this year! NEW MISS SOUTH DAKOTA USA AND
MISS SOUTH DAKOTA TEEN USA CROWNED
New Miss South Dakota USA now advance to the national Miss USA Telecast
Watertown – The MISS SOUTH DAKOTA USA and MISS SOUTH DAKOTA TEEN USA Pageants took place Saturday night at the Watertown Event Center Heritage Theater in Watertown. A capacity crowd filled the venue on Saturday evening for the pageant finals, where the panel of judges selected Shania Knutson of Brookings as MISS SOUTH DAKOTA USA 2022, and Bella Welker of Sioux Falls, as MISS SOUTH DAKOTA TEEN USA 2022. Both titleholders will now advance and compete next year at the MISS USA and MISS TEEN USA national pageants.
The competition, which is held annually, consists of three proportional segments: evening gown, swimwear/activewear and interview. Eligible young women must be between the ages of 14 and 27 and be unmarried residents of South Dakota to compete in the pageant.
Shania and Bella will each receive thousands of dollars in prizes and awards. Most importantly, they will have the opportunity to compete for the national titles of MISS USA and MISS TEEN USA this coming year. Shania will compete for the title of MISS USA on the live national telecast of MISS USA, and Bella will compete for the title of MISS TEEN USA at the national pageant later this year. In addition, the new MISS USA will go on to represent the United States in the MISS UNIVERSE competition, which is televised in over 130 countries worldwide.
