HELLO, UNIVERSE!

I hope you’ve been having a lovely, safe winter. I know since my last newsletter we’ve all dealt with the trauma of the news of Cheslie’s passing. I hope by now you’ve taken the time to mourn in whatever way works for you. I only briefly met Cheslie at the December show, but what everyone says is true – you could feel her warmth, grace, and hilarious personality, instantly.

Here at Miss Universe we’ve revived the #UniverseUnited series to bring the MISS UNIVERSE community together to collectively mourn her loss, discuss the struggles of mental health and to celebrate her life and all she was passionate about. Last week we kicked off the series with Miss Universe Organization President Paula Shugart, and Project Healthy Minds’ therapist Dr. Alfiee Breland-Noble to discuss loss, what high-functioning depression is, and how to seek help if you or someone you love is struggling with mental health.

This week 2019 Miss Universe, Catriona Gray, hosted an episode with Dress For Success CEO Michele C. Meyer-Shipp. They discussed Cat and Cheslie’s friendship, why the global organization was so close to Cheslie’s heart, and how viewers can get involved with the non-profit. Please stay tuned to our YouTube channel as we roll out more episodes to celebrate Cheslie’s life and bring our community together.

As for continuing my titleholder responsibilities, I was fortunate to attend a Global Citizens event this month to introduce their new campaign "END POVERTY NOW." I'm looking forward to working with them on their Women & Girls Initiative. I also attended New York Fashion Week earlier this month. I was so lucky to be able to attend the Bibhu Mohapatra show with the experiential company, On Location, and get to meet the designer backstage afterwards. It truly was a dream come true to attend the world’s biggest fashion moment, and see how it all works behind the scenes.

Last but not least, I'm excited to tell you about our upcoming partnership with a youth-fueled nonprofit organization in the near future. I can’t wait to keep you posted about it and where I go next! Until then…
