Reigning Miss Universe Zozibini Tunzi is returning to South Africa to act as a judge at this year’s Miss SA competition next week.

The all-woman judging line-up includes Peggy-Sue Khumalo, Anele Mdoda and Leandie du Randt. A fifth judge is still to be revealed.

“I was a contestant on stage just a year ago and was in awe of the women on the judging panel,” says Tunzi.

“I know what it is like, first-hand, to be in the job that these incredible women are applying for. I am excited to see how that experience will be of help on the judging panel.

This year’s event is going ahead as planned, but with a few tweaks.

The spectacular will be held at The Table Bay Hotel on Saturday from 5pm and will be broadcast live on M-Net (DStv channel 101) and Mzansi Magic (DStv channel 161), with a limited on-site audience due to Covid-19 restrictions.

Miss SA spokesperson Janine Walker said: “While the pageant is set to be hosted in an entertainment-packed event on Saturday, only a select audience will be able to physically attend the event.”

The show will feature plenty of local musical talent, including Mi Casa, Sho Madjozi, Ami Faku, Jimmy Nevis and Sun El-Musician.

Former Miss SA Tamaryn Green will be the host of the pre- and post-shows, which form part of the online streaming package. Subscriptions to livestream the Miss SA pageant finale are currently on sale.

The pay-per-view cost is R99.99 excluding VAT, and will include the exclusive pre-show event, the opportunity to see what happens backstage at the event, as well as access to an exclusive post-crowning interview with the newly crowned Miss SA.

Green – who was crowned Miss SA in 2018 and represented South Africa at the Miss Universe competition in 2018 and came in as the first runner-up – qualified as a doctor last year and is also an in-demand model.

“I am honoured to be selected for this incredible role. I’m looking forward to a fun, thrilling and dazzling few days with the Miss SA team and lovely finalists,” said Green.

This year, Nomzamo Mbatha will be taking over the reigns as host, with Bonang Matheba having hosted last year.

This year’s top 10 Miss SA finalists are Aphelele Mbiyo, Busisiwe Mmotla, Chantelle Pretorius, Jordan van der Vyver, Karishma Ramdev, Lebogang Mahlangu, Melissa Nayimuli, Natasha Joubert, Shudufhadzo Musida and Thato Mosehle.
