MANILA, Philippines – On Sunday, June 9 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum, 6 lucky ladies won new titles during the Binibining Pilipinas coronation night – including the new Binibining Pilipinas Supranational 2019, Resham Ramirez Saeed from Buluan, Maguindanao.

The 25-year-old Filipino-Pakistani was crowned by last year's Supranational winner, Jehza Huelar.

Resham also made it to the top 10 of Binibini's national costume competition.

Born in the Philippines and raised in Toronto, Canada, Resham first obtained her undergraduate degree in Psychology before she began her stints in pageantry. She was awarded Metro Toronto's Prettiest Filipina in 2012, as well as Miss Philippines Canada in 2017. She returned to the Philippines in 2018.

In an interview with blogger Mars Franz, Resham said she was raised in 6 countries, which explains her impressive ability to speak several languages, including English, Spanish, Hindi, Punjabi, and some Filipino.

Coincidentally, her question during the coronation night's Q and A segment tackled migration.

"Recently. migration and migrating became the most searched words on Google. What would you like to say to those disheartened Filipinos who seem to have lost hope for our country?” Grab Philippines president Brian Cu asked.

“I would say that history has shown us that Filipinos are very good at remaining steadfast despite any hardships or any violence shown towards us,” Resham said.

“We do not stand for discrimination and I would say that if you’ve lost your way, turn back to God and walk towards him.”

The Maguindanao bet is also an advocate for women empowerment and gender equality, working closely with the organization SPARK (Celebrating women who ignite global change).

In her video bio, the eloquent Resham also talked about her experiences with failure. “When I was younger, I used to be a swimming competitor. I practiced so hard for one of my competitions. I was so sure I was gonna win. However, that wasn’t the result. I got 3rd in place and I blamed myself for not working hard enough," she said.

"But as I grew older, I remembered the strengths I hold as a woman. Failure gives you an opportunity to grow and learn more about yourself."

When asked what else she wished for, aside from the coveted crown, she said: "Aside from winning the crown, what I look most forward to is passing down the values my parents instilled in me."

"Knowing I’m a strong, independent, fierce woman, I just want to give the values back, not to just young girls but to women, to help them see that they are enough and beautiful," she ended.

When she's not competing, Resham loves the outdoors, the beach, traveling, eating, and promoting self-care and confidence. – Rappler.com
