The Miss America competition is returning to Mohegan Sun December 12, with over $500,000 in scholarships up for grabs.

“We’re delighted to be returning to our home at Mohegan Sun as we prepare to crown our next Miss America,” Miss America Organization Board Chair Shantel Krebs wrote in a news release. “For over 100 years, we have been committed to empowering the advocates and leaders of tomorrow. Our program provides young women the opportunity to earn scholarships, grow their networks, learn valuable life and career skills, and make a difference in their communities.”

In a profile on the Miss America website, González wrote that she hopes to "cast a light on the many faces of abuse and through education and compassion, help people become trauma informed to see the patterns that exist in intergenerational abuse so they can 'Protege tu Paz' and be the change in their family’s lineage."

Miss Connecticut 2021 Sapna Raghavan competed for the Miss America title last year, the 100th year of the competition, and was the first contestant to perform classical Indian dancing as her talent.

In an interview last year, Raghavan said she was encouraged by Miss America's 2019 decision to get rid of the swimsuit portion and redefine itself as a competition — not a pageant — with a focus on scholarship, social impact, talent and empowerment.

"Not a lot of companies last 100 years, and the fact they are looking to innovate for the next 100 is one of the reasons I wanted to compete," she said. "They have made so many changes in the times, and continue to stay relevant. If the swimsuit competition was still part of this, I wouldn't have done it."

This year's competition at Mohegan Sun’s Earth Expo & Convention Center begins Dec. 12, and Miss America 2023 will be crowned on Dec. 15

Tickets are now available on Ticketmaster and through the Mohegan Sun box office, including packages for those who want to attend all three nights of the competition. The tickets range from from $165 to $325. Individual tickets for preliminaries are also available from $50 to $150 and individual finals tickets range from $85 to $200.
