The finale of Miss Universe Japan ended on a grand note at the Hotel Chinzanso in Tokyo as Miss Mie Yuumi Kato bagged the title of Miss Universe Japan 2018. The representatives of Tokyo, Hokkaido and Niigata were placed as the runners-up.
The stunning beauty queen speaks four languages; Japanese, English, Malay and Chinese. Yuumi is brought up in Malaysia.
Report has it that the new Miss Universe Japan national director is Hiroko Mima, who was Japan’s representative at Miss Universe 2008, held in Vietnam.
The pageant also experienced some controversy when a series of the contestant portraits were announced and many people went on to express their concern about the selected candidates and the apparent lack of competition this year.
Japan has been quite successful at Miss Universe pageant. In the history of the competition, Japan won twice; once in 1959 and another time in the year 2007. In addition, Japan has reached the semi-finals several times and also won many runner-up titles.
